Eeke’s Memory
During the first years of my own company (Marcel Borsboom, since 2011) I was really happy to get the help from Willem, the sweetest accountant in the world. From a small town in the Dutch countryside, Willem and his wife (Eeke) gave me lunch before the “btw-aangifte” and always a nicely filled bag of groceries afterwards. Perhaps because they knew my financial situation.
When it was time for me to pay the bill we all figured lets do it with something realer than money. Eeke’s parents (very old, stubborn, but very cute) living in an éven smaller town, were about to die. So Eeke asked me if I could make a video she would have as a memory, not so much of her parents, but more the world around them. And by that her childhood; the house, attic, vegatable garden. The simple happiness.
This is one of the most personal video’s I have ever made, I was afraid that Goldfrapp’s beautiful track wouldn’t fit and make Eeke’s memory too dark or weirdly modern. But it didn’t. I never had that thankful clients.
Sadly within 3 years after this video both of her parents died, and this video was shown on both their funerals. An unimaginable honor.
Thanks to photography friend Joris Kalma who shot the live action footage!
